Outdoor Learning

"Overthorpe is more than just a school ..."

We are fortunate enough at Overthorpe to have beautiful and well-planted grounds which give us a wide range of outdoor learning opportunities.

As part of our curriculum, we ensure that our children learn about the importance of healthy food.  This is why we grow fruit and vegetables in our polytunnel and raised beds all the year round. We pick these and use them in our cookery lessons.

Small groups of children are taken to learn outside. We use our woodland area for den building, identifying plants and wildlife and finding materials for art work. We use our pond area for pond dipping and learning about life cycles and seasons. We use our fields and meadow areas as an outdoor classroom for a whole host of other opportunities.

Early Years and Pre-school also have their own outdoor areas, complete with mud pits, dens, shelters, tracks, water, construction and sand.
