Our Neighbourhood Nest

" ... while providing a nest to come home to."

Our Neighbourhood Nest is a space for the whole community to come and enjoy. It is located in the old Surestart building at the top of our school drive and is home to Mrs Keeley Loney, our Community Champion.  Keeley also works on Tuesdays at Thornhill Lees Community Centre and is an ambassador for promoting community links in school and in our local community.
Our Neighbourhood Nest offers social and learning events for members of our community of all ages through workshops, courses, coffee mornings and fun sessions.
A weekly coffee morning is held every Wednesday from 9am. This is a chance to come along with friends, or to meet new people and to share any thoughts and ideas about how we can utilise the centre.

If you know anyone who would like to join any of groups, please invite them … they do not have to have pupils at our school, we are open to the whole community and we are here to serve your needs. Our current groups are listed below:

Fareshare is an initiative where food which has been over-ordered by supermarkets is shared out in communities. We have a delivery to Our Neighbourhood Nest every Friday, and we are currently running Fareshare sessions on Friday afternoons from 1.30 – 3.30pm.

You will be able to purchase a freezer bag and a thermometer from Keeley during your first visit for £1. Then, each week you should return with your bag and thermometer and will be given a list of food that you can take for free to provide a few meals at home.  Our coffee machine is always on and we will sometimes be running cookery sessions or handing out recipe cards using the available foods during these times too.

The principal purpose of Fareshare is to support families in need or in crisis. However, we have plenty of donations to go around at Overthorpe so everyone is more than welcome to attend while the project is in its early stages.

If you would like to talk to us about your needs as a family, please feel free us through Keeley Loney or through the school office.

In some circumstances, we may be able to put your bags of food aside for you to collect at a more convenient time.

Uniform Exchange

Our Neighbourhood Nest has close links with the Uniform Exchange.  If you have uniform items that no longer fit, please put them in the donation bin in the foyer of the Nest. If you need uniform at any time during the year, contact Keeley to make a request. Items will be delivered to the Nest for you and are free of charge. Requests can include items such as Overthorpe or Unbranded School Jumpers and Cardigans, PE Kits, Swimming Kits, Coats and Shoes as well as standard uniform items.
